WHY STUDENTS FAIL

Failure is a report given by life that shows us something has been omitted or done wrongly. As it is possible to move from a series of failures into a jaw-dropping success, it is also possible to have a great failure after rising to a great height in life.

This post is for you whether you are in college, a jambite, or a freshman on campus who wants preventive measures for failure or wants to put an end to it.

Below are some of the reasons why students fail:

1. Not Studying the right materials

For every subject or course, there is always a recommended textbook on it from which teachers or lecturers do draft their notes. These materials are expected to be used by students as supplements to the notes written in class since the materials tend to give a thorough explanation of each topic. Failure to do this can make a student perform poorly. College students who need materials on Maths, English, and science-related subjects can get them here. I'll keep updating the list. For past questions on various subjects from any year, you can check out MySchool.

2. Having a wrong attitude towards schooling

There is a popular slang among Nigerian students which is: "school na scam". This I believe originated from the fact that the richest people in the world today are barely given a formal education while some never completed theirs. This might have some iota of truth, but what these students don't realize is that these successful men and women who they claim to be their role models never disliked schooling nor did they drop out of school due to a low IQ. Men like Bill Gates and the likes had wonderful performances while in school but decided to leave school due to a higher calling. Any student who believes in this erroneous claim will find it difficult to make sacrifices that will make him successful in school.

3. Overconfidence

Some students do get drunk with their past achievements, then they relent and believe they do not need to work harder to succeed in their studies. They forget too soon how they achieved their great feats and they do not notice their depreciation until they start failing repeatedly.

4. Not using the web to their advantage

It is no more news that the world has moved from the pen-paper age to the digital age. Almost all valuable resources a student will need are now available online. All that is needed to tap into these resources is to have a smartphone or a laptop that has a data connection. Sites like Google, Youtube, Udemy, Pdfdrive and generative AI shouldn't be far-fetched for any student who want nothing but success.

5. Not knowing what it takes to succeed as a student

Most students fail because they do not know how to be a successful students. They have fulfilled the prophecy that says: If you fail to prepare; you are prepared to fail. I have explained how to be a successful student in a former post here.

I believe you have learned one thing or the other from this post.

Sharing and commenting on this post will be appreciated.

I look forward to writing to you soon.
