PAINS 2 GAINS: How to acquire strength in the days of weakness.
There are moments in life when we feel like the world is turning upside down, all hope seems lost and it seems no help is coming soon. As short as these moments are, they try to set a large footprint in our lives.
In this post, I am going to share how we can survive these days and make use of the opportunities it has to offer.
You might want to ask me: "dude is there anything like an opportunity in painful moments?". Trust me, there are lots of them, some of which are:
1. Painful moments enable us to discover ourselves
you will not believe you can do some great things until a kind of force wakes those potentials from their slumber. Just like the first law of motion: a body(let's call this potential) remains in its state of rest or moves in a straight line until it is being acted upon by an external force(eg. Pain). Pain sometimes acts as a catalyst that makes us discover our hidden potentials faster. Most celebrities that are celebrated today once had painful experiences before they came into the limelight. The likes of Charlie Spencer Chaplin, Ophra Winfrey, even Jesus Christ, and some others. They all converted their pains into a catalyst for success and not into a catastrophe, so why won't you do the same?
2. They serve as a test of true love
a proverb says: "a friend in need is a friend indeed" It is not unusual to see people you called friends depart from you when you are in these moments. You found out that only those who truly care stick to you in these periods.
3. They draw you closer to your ultimate source
When it seems you have lost all your strength, you find out that the only place left in which you can draw more strength is solely from the creator of all things. Pain is also one of the ways God uses to call the attention of His beloved, and all things get normal after reconciliation has been made.
How to turn your painful moments into Gains
1. Rather than fight, accept the pain as a part of life:
according to Alan Watts, When you try to stay on the surface of the water, you sink; but when you try to sink, you float.
Fighting pain means when you start making regrets and pitying your life. You start asking God why all this has been allowed to happen.
When you accept the pain, you see that life exists in three modes which include the positive, neutral and negative; the great, average, and small; the rich, middle-class, and poor. These three modes exist in life to create a balance, and for us to be excited as we navigate this planet.
2. Be optimistic and think of a way out:
you need to start thinking positively and hope for better days to come. You should know that the best thing being remorseful can offer you is sickness and weakness, you have to find a solution to your current situation as soon as possible.
3. Trade your pain for a solution, not sympathy:
you could have heard people saying that: "a problem shared is a problem halved"-quoted by Katie John. This can only be true if the listener is the right person. The majority of people are only interested in listening to how life has been so harsh on you and the best thing they can offer is "sorry ehn". But when you talk with the right person what you get is a solution. For instance, a lady who was a victim of a rape committed by a family member can share her pains with a human rights activist and not a fellow friend of hers who has no idea of issues related to this.
With this post, I believe I have communicated with you how we can all benefit from painful moments.
I'm using this to wish my Christian readers a happy Easter.
Your comments and sharing of this post with others will be appreciated.
I look forward to writing to you soon.
